Costco no longer offers film or video transfer

Costco closed its in-store photo centers, including home-movie transfer, on Feb 14, 2021 (CNN). Its online photo services, including costcodvd.com, ended Jan 28, 2023 (Seattle Times). A Costco Next storefront run by Capture (formerly YesVideo) followed. Capture says that platform “is no longer active as of August 31” (2026) and offers Costco members a pricing code for direct orders (Capture: Costco).

What Costco members can do now

Quality level

Our editorial view. filmtransfer.ai’s editor, who has worked in the film transfer industry, considers mass-market services to be generally standard-definition or basic-HD: the lowest quality tier available for a given film. That is an opinion. The specs below are what each company publishes, so you can judge for yourself.

Capture’s film option is listed as “SD, 480p” with frame-by-frame scanning (source, source); its film page also mentions 4KUnconfirmed. Frame rate and codec are not publishedUnconfirmed. No archival master is listed.

How the market divides. Mass-market services compete mainly on convenience, price and retail reach: drop-off counters, prepaid kits and flat per-item pricing. Smaller boutique labs typically compete on scan quality: higher native resolution, frame-by-frame or sprocketless scanners, color correction and archival file formats.
